  The overall goal of the Water and Sanitation sector is: Improvement in the quality of life of people through their improved access to safe, convenient, sustainable water and sanitation services, and increased adoption of hygienic practices at the personal, household and community levels, resulting in (i) reduced morbidity and mortality rates (particularly under-five child mortality) and (ii) enhanced people’s productivity and well-being.

Who Should Attend?
Planners, engineers, project managers, quality and environmental managers from urban and rural water supply organizations, regulators, sewerage organizations, local government, municipalities, community leaders and representatives.

Objectives of the course
At the end of the course, participants will be able to:
• Describe the characteristics of urban communities and how they can affect behavior and environmental responsibility;
• Explain the importance of social accountability and community involvement for effective and sustainable WASH services;
• Discuss the different approaches that are available to influence people’s behavior in the home, in schools and other institutions, and in the wider community;
• Plan and undertake community engagement activities to achieve sustainable change in WASH behavior;
• Explain how monitoring and evaluation should be used to assess impact of WASH interventions.
