The goal of this training is to raise your awareness on abuse and neglect, helping you to recognize early signs that might show a problem and direct you how to take action in case you know or suspect that a child or young person in need of help. In addition it covers how one or an organization can advocate for good practices in safeguarding.
COURSE CONTENT
1. Child Development
This module covers:
- the difference between safeguarding & child protection
- children’s developmental needs
- developmental milestones
- positive and negative influences on child development
- working in a child-centred way.
2. Categories of Child Abuse
This module covers:
- what abuse is
- the four main types of child abuse
- the prevalence of abuse
- the physical and behavioral signs of abuse
- the effects of child abuse
- Myths about child abuse.
3. Specific Safeguarding Issues
This module covers:
- female genital mutilation (FGM)
- forced marriage
- honor-based violence/abuse
- child sexual exploitation
- extremism/radicalization
- domestic abuse/violence
- online abuse
- peer-on-peer abuse
- sexual violence & sexual harassment
- child trafficking & modern-day slavery
- fabricated or induced illness
- serious violence
- county lines exploitation
- Faltering growth.
- 4. Reporting Abuse and the Child Protection System
This module covers:
- how to respond if a child confides in you
- how to respond if you have concerns about a child’s welfare
- how you should report abuse
- sharing information
- What happens after you have reported your concerns - the child protection process?
5. Promoting Good Practice
This module covers:
- the different laws & statutory guidance which protect children and the young people
- What you & your organization can do to make sure that children under your care are safe from harm
- good practice for your organization
- allegations against staff
- the importance of underpinning safeguarding in your organization.
PLEASE NOTE
- All the participants should be conversant with the English language.
- All our courses involve a mix of one on one presentations, web based tutorials, group discussions, and practical exercises.
- All courses can be tailor made and adjusted to meet the client’s needs.
- We have a team of professional experts who work as professionals and trainers in their respective fields.
- Each participant will get an Uphilos Consultancy certificate, upon completion of each course.
- All our training sessions are held at Uphilos Center. For groups above five people we can train at any location in Kenya, above ten people any location within East Africa, and above twenty people at any location as per the client’s specifications.
- Participants will be responsible for their travel, dinner, airport transfers, and other personal expenses.
- Accommodation will be arranged upon request at a discounted price.
